Network-security company Palo Alto Networks has selected Michael Lehman as its first CFO. He is a former two-time CFO of Sun Microsystems.

Daniel Reznikov has been named finance chief of the ALS Association. Previously, he was vice president, operations and finance, at the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute.

Ethanol producer Aventine Renewable Energy Holdings Inc. has appointed John Castle to the top finance spot. He comes to the company from White Energy Inc., where he was CFO.

Joseph Slattery has resigned as a director and chairman of the audit committee at medical-device company TranS1 Inc. and has become finance chief of the company. He is a former CFO of molecular diagnostics firm Digene Corp.

Briggs & Stratton Corp., a gasoline-engine producer, has promoted vice president of finance David Rodgers to the CFO post, effective June 28. He will take over from James Brenn, who will stay on as a senior vice president until he retires in December.

Purfresh Inc. has named Timothy Steinkopf to lead the finance function. Previously, he was CFO of SumTotal Systems.

Mark Somol is the new head of finance at Mzinga Inc., a social software, analytics, and service provider for business. He is a former principal at NeoCarta Ventures.

Spire Corp. has promoted Robert Lieberman to the role of CFO and treasurer. Lieberman joined the solar company in April 2009 as corporate controller and has been chief accounting officer since December.

Sandra Gardiner has been named CFO of diagnostic-test developer Vermillion Inc. She previously headed finance at Bend Research Inc.
