• Two of Citigroup Inc.’s top executives are trading jobs. Todd Thomson, currently CFO and head of strategy, will be appointed chairman and chief executive officer of Smith Barney, Citi’s private-client wealth management and equity research unit. Meanwhile Sallie Krawcheck, current chair and CEO of Smith Barney, will become Citi’s CFO and head of strategy. The switch is effective November 5.
Chuck Prince, chief executive of Citigroup, said the appointments provide the executives with a chance to build their capabilities. “Through these appointments, Todd will be able to expand his skills by running one of our key operating units. And Sallie will get a broad view of our entire global organization through a critical corporate role,” he said.
Thomson has been Citigroup’s CFO since 2000. Before that, he served as CEO of Citi’s Global Private Bank. Krawcheck became chair and CEO of Smith Barney in 2002. Before joining Citigroup, Krawcheck served as chair and CEO of the independent research firm Sanford C. Bernstein.
• Pharmaceuticals maker Forest Laboratories Inc. tapped Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. executive Francis I. Perier Jr. as senior vice president of finance and CFO. Perier joins Forest after eight years at Bristol-Myers, where he was most recently vice president of finance and operations planning at the company’s Americas Medicines division.
• Miami-based Burger King Corp. appointed Cedric Burgher executive vice president & CFO. Burgher joins Burger King from Halliburton Co., where he was most recently vice president and treasurer.
• Bodo Uebber, who is slated to succeed Manfred Gentz as finance chief of DaimlerChrysler AG in December, will also replace Gentz then as chair of the supervisory board of DaimlerChrysler Services AG. Uebber will step give up his post as a member of the board of management of DaimlerChrysler Services, a commercial-vehicle finance unit. Uebber, the current head of the services company, will be replaced by Juergen Walker when Uebber becomes chief financial officer.
• Milwaukee-based Johnson Controls announced several new finance-related appointments.
CFO Stephen Roell was promoted from senior vice president to executive vice president. He joined the company in 1982 and has served as finance chief since 1991. R. Bruce McDonald was named vice president and assistant CFO. Since joining Johnson Controls in 2001, he has served as vice president and corporate controller and as a corporate officer. Further, Denise Zutz was appointed vice president of strategy, investor relations, and communication. She had formerly served as vice president of communication. Zutz joined Johnson Controls in 1973 and was named a corporate officer in 1991.
• Seattle-based Safeco’s chief executive Michael McGavick named two co-presidents to be part of a new office of the president. CFO Christine Mead will become co-president of service, technology, and finance. McGavick also promoted Michael LaRocco from head of home and auto insurance to co-president of product, underwriting and claims. The company is searching for a third co-president to run marketing, sales, and distribution.
• Amica Mutual Insurance Co., based in selected one-time CFO Robert DiMuccio to succeed president and CEO ThomasTaylor, who is retiring in February. DiMuccio is currently executive vice president and has also served as treasurer. Lincoln, Rhode Island-based Amica is an auto insurer.
• Fidelis Energy Inc., a Tucson-based oil and gas company, tapped Sterling Klein as its new CFO. A petroleum industry veteran, Klein has worked for Shell and Chevron. At Fidelis, Klein will also hold the titles of secretary, treasurer, and director.
• At Pacific Continental Corp., the Eugene, Oregon-based bank holding company for Pacific Continental Bank, CFO Michael Reynolds added the title of executive vice president. Reynolds joined Pacific Continental in 1998.
• Louis Greco has resigned as CFO and executive vice president of MSC Software Corp. Greco resigned to pursue other opportunities, according to the company. Based in Santa Ana, Calif., MSC makes simulation software and services to serve companies’ design and testing needs.
• TXU Energy Co. LLC, a subsidiary of Dallas-based TXU Corp., announced that Scott Longhurst has resigned as senior vice president and controller to join a company in the United Kingdom. Assistant controller Stan Szlauderbach will take on Longhurst’s responsibilities on an interim basis.
• Paul Renaud is resigning as CFO, executive vice president, and secretary of CAE Inc. as of October 31. Renaud will join the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System as CFO and senior vice president of finance and administration. Until a successor is appointed, Alain Raquepas, the company’s vice president of finance, military simulation, and training, will act as interim finance chief. CAE develops simulation technologies and integrated training services to airlines, aircraft manufacturers, defense forces, and marine customers.
• Redwood City, California-based BigBand Networks Inc., a provider of network platforms for video, voice, and data services, picked Frederick Ball as finance chief. Ball joins BigBand Networks from Borland Software, where he was CFO and executive vice president of corporate development and mergers and acquisitions. Before joining Borland, Ball served as vice president of finance and vice president of mergers and acquisitions for KLA-Tencor, a company in the semiconductor industry.
• Herley Industries Inc. named Thomas Gilboy as CFO and vice president. Gilboy previously was finance chief at Del Global Technologies Corp. Herley uses microwave technology to make products for the defense, aerospace, and medical industries.
