Michael P. Cangemi has been named president and chief executive officer of Financial Executives International, effective January 15.
He succeeds Colleen Cunningham, who held the position since March 2003 and announced last August that she was leaving FEI to spend more time with her family. Cunningham certainly kept a hectic schedule: She spent 80 percent of her time on the road, visiting 75 chapters, speaking at 30 conferences annually, and testifying before Congress several times a year.
As for Cangemi, he brings nearly 30 years of accounting and corporate financial management experience to the professional trade association. “Michael is a longstanding member of FEI and has deep insight into the complex corporate governance and financial reporting issues facing our members today,” said FEI chairman Richard Schrader, in a statement.
He is currently president of Cangemi Co., a media and consulting firm. Previously he was president, chief executive officer, and director of Etienne Aigner Group, a designer of women’s branded accessories, where he led the company’s expansion into licensing and guided the development of the company’s online business. He has also held senior positions at BDO Seidman, Phelps Dodge, and Ernst & Young.
In addition, Cangemi is the author of two books, “Auditing in an EDP Environment” (1991) and “Managing the Audit Function” (2003).
