International Data Corporation has come out with a new report on the application management services market. The global market for application management services sold discretely, as opposed to application management bundled with data center outsourcing, reached nearly $50 billion in 2012, IDC reported in a press release earlier this month. The top 10 vendors increased their market share to 63 percent, compared to 59 percent in 2011. For the consolidated application management services market, which includes both the discrete and bundled-with-data-center-outsourcing categories, the market for the top 10 vendors rose to $41.3 billion in 2012, up from $37 billion for the previous year. “IDC has witnessed increased rivalry in the application management services market,” said Pete Marston, an IDC research manager, in the press release. “Buying organizations see tremendous value with outsourcing their application management to service providers, especially when outsourcers can simplify their customers’ jobs and deliver business benefits like cost savings, time savings, and increased productivity to customers seeking to streamline their AM activities,” Marston said. Accenture took over as market leader for discrete application management services in 2012, with IBM sliding back to second place, IDC reported. IBM stayed as number one spot for consolidated application management revenues. IDC’s report also evaluates the top 10 vendors in the application management services space. Earlier this year, IDC reported that the worldwide discrete market had grown 4.2% in 2012 and was projected to increase 5.7 percent in 2013. The IDC report costs $3,500.
