In a move that could set off a high-profile leadership scramble in the House, Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (Ill.) has been offered the job of White House chief of staff by President-elect Obama, ABC News is reporting.
Emanuel, a veteran of the Clinton White House, has not yet given Obama an answer.
If he does choose to leave the House, among the potential candidates who could toss their hat into the ring for his job are Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen (Md.), Caucus Vice Chairman John Larson (Conn.), Assistant to the Speaker Xavier Becerra (Calif.) and Rep. Joe Crowley (N.Y.).
