John Ferrara has been appointed to the top finance spot at TheStreet Inc. He is a former chief operating officer of Invmetrics Holdings Inc., and before that was CFO of Edgar-Online Inc.

Capital One Financial Corp. has named Stephen Crawford CFO Designate; he will become CFO on May 24 upon the retirement of current finance chief Gary Perlin. An adviser to Capital One, Crawford had been a partner at Centerview Partners, which he co-founded.

Safeway Inc. has selected Peter Bocian to lead the finance function. He joins the food and drug retailer from JPMorgan Chase, where he was executive vice president, head of corporate services and finance.

Electronic payroll-equipment supplier VeriFone Systems Inc. has named Marc Rothman to head finance. He succeeds Robert Dykes, who is retiring. Previously, Rothman was CFO of Motorola Mobility Inc. and controller of Motorola Inc.

Roger Matthews Jr. has been appointed to lead the finance function at Panera Bread Co., effective March 18. He comes to the firm from Goldman Sachs, where he was managing director and sector head of the U.S. restaurant industry in Goldman’s investment-banking division.

Real Goods Solar Inc. has named Tony DiPaolo to the top finance spot. DiPaolo, who replaces interim CFO Angy Chin, is a former president and CFO of Incentra Solutions and a former CFO and chief accounting officer of Roomlinx.

Michael Herring is the new head of finance at Pandora Media Inc. He takes over from Steve Cakebread, who announced last August that he would leave the company. Herring joins Pandora from Adobe Systems Inc., where he was vice president of operations.

Clean Harbors Inc. has announced that CFO Robert Gagnon has resigned and that vice chairman, president, and chief operating officer James Rutledge will replace him. Rutledge, who will now hold the titles of vice chairman, president, and CFO, was finance chief at the energy, environmental, and industrial-services provider from August 2005 through August 2012.

Mike McDevitt has been promoted to finance chief at Cree Inc. He had been interim CFO since May 2012; before that, he was director of sales operations.
