• Sears Holdings has named J. Miles Reidy as CFO. Reidy will begin his new job in October. He joins the retailer from the banking industry and most recently worked at Capital One Financial, where he served as CFO of its credit card division. Sears has emphasized Reidy’s expertise in quantitative analysis. His appointment follows the January resignation of Craig Monaghan, who left Sears after five months on the job.

• Blockbuster has appointed Thomas Casey as executive vice president and CFO. He most recently was managing director for Deutsche Bank Securities Inc., and he has also held investment banking positions at Citigroup, Merrill Lynch, and Dillon Read & Co. His predecessor, Larry Zine, who also holds the title of chief administrative officer, will leave the company by the end of September.

• John Luttrell has resigned as executive vice president and CFO of retailer Wet Seal to take on the same position at another clothing company, Old Navy. Wet Seal has appointed vice president and controller Steve Benrubi as CFO. He has been with the company for more than two years and previously served as the controller for CKE Restaurants. The new appointment and resignation go into effect September 21.

• Ellen Richstone has retired as CFO of Sonus Networks. She will stay with the company while the role is transitioned to former Sycamore Networks CFO Richard Gaynor, who will begin on October 1. At Sycamore, Gaynor focused the operations team on expanding market opportunities and improving the company’s financial performance. He has also served as vice president and corporate controller of Manufacturers Services and CFO of Evans and Sutherland Computer Corp., and he has held various senior financial management positions with Cabletron Systems. Sycamore is searching for Gaynor’s replacement.

• Authoria Inc. has appointed Stephen Lifshatz as CFO to succeed interim CFO Paul Pedevillano. Before joining the software company, he served for 10 years as senior vice president and CFO of Lionbridge Technologies, a technology and services provider. He also worked at The Dodge Group as president and CFO and Marcam Corp. as vice president and CFO. Donald Muir has joined Lionbridge as its new CFO. He has also held finance positions at Stratus Computer, Prime Computer, and Wallace Murray Corp.

• Solar energy company SunEdison has named Carlos Domenech CFO. He previously served as CFO at Universal Pictures’ International Entertainment, where he led its integration with NBC. He spent 14 years with GE, where he served in a variety of global executive roles, including CFO of GE Healthcare’s EMEA Service. At SunEdison, he will oversee all financial, human resources, and information functions. SunEdison’s current CFO and board member, Brian Robertson, will assume the role of president, overseeing business development, acquisitions and corporate development activities.

• Animation studio Laika Inc. has hired a former Lucasfilm and Hanna-Barbera executive as CFO. Alan Keith will be the company’s new finance chief as well as vice president of business operations. He will be responsible for leading the expansion of the company’s business operations. He spent the past two years as corporate finance director at Genentech Inc., a biotech company. At Lucasfilm, he was corporate vice president of administration and secretary. He worked at Hanna-Barbera as chief accounting officer and controller. He has also worked at Turner Entertainment Co. and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

• The Laclede Group Inc. has promoted a 17-year veteran to CFO of the company and of Laclede Gas Co. Mark Waltermire was previously vice president of operations and marketing of its subsidiary Laclede Gas. Laclede Group is a public utility holding company.

• Craig Stuver will take over as acting CFO of Michael Baker Corp., to temporarily fill the position left open by William Mooney, who resigned on September 7. Stuver is the company’s senior vice president, corporate controller, treasurer, and chief accounting officer and has held those titles for the past six years. Michael Baker provides engineering and operations and maintenance services.

• Paul Musgrove, vice president and CFO of First Place Financial Corp., has resigned, effective September 20. He has also resigned as corporate executive vice president, CFO, and treasurer of First Place Bank. The company has appointed David Gifford as principal accounting officer and interim CFO, effective September 10, to serve until Musgrove’s permanent successor is named. Gifford currently serves as principal accounting officer with First Place Bank.

• Sunrise Senior Living Inc. has named veteran troubleshooter Richard Nadeau as CFO. Nadeau succeeds acting finance chief Julie Pangelinan, who will stay with the company as chief accounting officer. Pangelinan had served as acting CFO since April 23, when Bradley Rush was suspended with pay after the company concluded “that actions taken by Mr. Rush were not consistent with the document retention directives issued by the company.” Rush was fired, with cause, a little more than a week after his suspension.

• New England Conservatory has appointed Edward Lesser as CFO. He has previously held leadership positions at the Boston Stock Exchange and Boston Options Exchange. The conservatory’s newly created position will have Lesser playing a “key role” strategic planning and long-range financial modeling, the organization said. His appointment will take effect on September 24.

• Startup company ZenZui has hired Michael Vernon as CFO. He previously was CFO of aQuantive Inc. for six years. While at that Internet technology company, he was responsible for all financial operations and reporting. He was also the CFO at Red Lion, and he has held senior management and financial positions in the energy, transportation, and aviation industries.
