In an email this week to Microsoft’s 100,000 employees, Steve Ballmer, chief executive, outlined the company’s restructuring, according to ZDNet.
“We have delivered many great products and had much success in market, but we all want more,” Ballmer wrote. That means “operational excellence in cloud services, datacenter operations, and manufacturing and supply chain that are essential in a devices and services world.”
Microsoft is creating four engineering areas: cloud, operating systems, applications and devices. Also, “with more IT delivered as services from the cloud, the function of IT itself will be re-imagined,” Ballmer said.
Here is Ballmer’s email, and here is an analysis by ZDNet’s Steve Ranger.
