Fraxion, a provider of procure-to-pay software for proactive spend management, has expanded the AI capabilities in its accounts payable automation. The new features are designed to help finance teams reduce routine work while giving them greater visibility into invoices, exceptions, and risks that require further review. The release combines AI-assisted data extraction and review, risk grading and recommendations, automated matching, predictive coding, and a redesigned accounts payable work center to help teams focus their attention where it matters most.
As invoice volumes grow, finance teams face a familiar challenge: processing more work while ensuring important exceptions, risks and decisions that require human judgment are not overlooked. The new AI-assisted functionality does not replace the people responsible for transactions. Instead, it assesses information, identifies potential issues, explains what it finds, and recommends where attention may be needed.
Fraxion designed the capabilities to support and guide human judgment rather than replace it. The system assesses each invoice, automates routine processing and identifies issues that need review, while the final approval stays with the accountable decision-maker. The AP experience is built to work as an advisor, giving finance teams the information and confidence to make well-informed decisions.
Every invoice is automatically assessed when it is created, with enhanced AI-assisted extraction, designed to improve the accuracy of captured invoice data. The assessment evaluates risk areas including unusual amounts, vendor reliability, and purchase order matching. Each invoice receives a risk grade, with the reasoning behind the assessment and an AI-recommended action, giving finance teams the context to understand potential issues and respond accordingly.
The new capabilities also automate invoice matching and coding, tasks that typically require manual effort. Invoice line items are matched against purchase orders and, where applicable, goods received, and transactions are coded to the appropriate cost allocation. Each suggestion includes a confidence score, allowing teams to process high-confidence matches and codes efficiently while directing review toward exceptions.
A new AP usage dashboard and redesigned work center provide additional visibility into processing activity, trends, and bottlenecks, helping finance teams monitor performance as work moves through the process rather than relying solely on retrospective reporting.
Built for the needs of finance teams
“We start with the problem finance teams are trying to solve, not with the technology itself,” said Stanton Jandrell, CEO of Fraxion. “AI can assess large amounts of information quickly, identify what may need attention and explain why. Our role is to put that intelligence in the hands of the person responsible for the decision, so they can act with better information and greater confidence. AI assesses, automation handles the routine, and finance teams stay in control of the decisions that matter.”
Working directly with finance teams, Paul Mullis, vice president of sales at Fraxion, sees these challenges firsthand in conversations with customers.
“Finance teams don’t need another system that simply processes more invoices,” Mullis said. “They need to know where their attention is most valuable and have the information to act on it. That’s where we’re seeing the greatest opportunity for AI in AP: not replacing financial judgment but giving teams more insight to apply it.”
