- Sierra Pacific Resources, a Las Vegas-based utility holding company, has appointed Dennis Schiffel, a former Atlantic Richfield Co., executive, as CFO, replacing Mark Ruelle, who was recently named president of the firm’s southern Nevada utility, Nevada Power. Schiffel was most recently vice president, corporate planning at ARCO prior to its acquisition by BP. He also held several other executive positions at ARCO and its subsidiaries, including investor relations, finance and treasury.
- FiberCore, a Charlton, Mass.-basedmanufacturer of optical fiber for telecommunications and data, has named Robert P. Lobban CFO, replacing Steven Phillips, who has been interim CFO since August 2000. Philips will resume his role as a consultant to the company and “focus his efforts on merger and acquisition opportunities,” the company announced. Lobban joined the firm earlier this year as a consultant.
- Wireless provider UbiquiTel has hired James Volk, formerly of Cingular, as CFO. Volk was most recently CFO of the east region of Cingular, a joint venture of SBCCommunications and BellSouth Corp.
- Eden Warner has been promoted to CFO of Fandango, a movie ticketing company based in Hollywood, Cal. Warner joined the firm in December as vice president of finance. In addition, today’s announcement also announces the appointment of Sallie Merritt Green as vice president, product and market developments, and the hiring of Charles Ruderman as vice president, sales.
- Global Axcess, a San Diego financial services firm, has named James Collins as CEO, CFO and board member, replacing David Fann, who has served as CEO since the firm was founded in December. Fann will remain as board chairman.
- Russell A. Yates, a CPA who is treasurer and CFO of Universal Air Travel Plan, a Washington, D.C.-based firm, has been appointed to the board of directors for the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.
