- Automatic for the People: Automatic Data Processing Inc., a Roseland, N.J.-based computer services company, said VP and CFO Richard Haviland, will retire on June 30. Karen Dykstra and Richard Douville will split Haviland’s responsibilities after he retires. Dykstra, currently VP and controller, will become VP of finance, responsible primarily for control and investor relations. Douville will also hold the title of VP of finance and handle treasury and tax.
- The Heat Is On: Charlotte, N.C.-based utility company Duke Energy Corp. appointed Rance Hall CFO of its wholesale merchant power plant business, Duke Energy Generation Services. Hall previously worked at Duke/Fluor Daniel, a joint venture between Duke and engineering and construction company Fluor Corp., where he was CFO and VP of finance and administration. John McCraw will replace Hall at Duke/Fluor Daniel.
- Elements of Metabolex: Metabolex Inc., a Hayward, Calif.- based biopharmaceutical company, promoted its CFO Mark N.K. Bagnall with the additional title of SVP. Bagnall joined Metabolex in June 2000 from Metrika Inc., where he served as CFO and secretary and was responsible for that company’s online diabetes healthcare unit.
- Cleaning House: Ecolab Inc., a maker of cleaning and maintenance products for institutional use, announced that EVP and CFO L. White Matthews III will resign from the company to pursue personal interests. The St. Paul, Minn.-based company said that Matthews will continue as CFO and a member of the board as the company searches for a new CFO. In 2000, Matthews received $375,000 in salary, $309,000 in bonus, and $35,358 in other compensation.
- Sanford Fitch is seeing things in a new light. He was named CFO of Alvesta Inc., a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based maker of optical transceiver modules. Previously, Fitch spent four years as CFO at Conceptus, a medical device spin-off of Target Therapeutics.
- Stepping Down Softly: E-MedSoft.com, a Jacksonville, Fla.- based application service provider to the healthcare industry, announced the resignation of CFO Margaret Harris, as the company continues to centralize its financial operations to Jacksonville. Harris, whose resignation was effective May 16, will pursue other opportunities, but will continue to serve E-MedSoft.com as a consultant. Suzanne Hosch will be interim CFO until the company names a successor.
