- A New Chapter: Sylvan Learning Systems Inc., a Baltimore- based provider of educational services, said that CFO Neal Cohen quit after only seven months on the job. Cohen resigned to become the CFO of Conseco Finance Corp., the loans unit of life insurer Conseco Inc. VP of corporate finance and treasurer Sean Creamer has been named interim CFO until the company finds a permanent replacement. Cohen will leave Sylvan at the end of the month. Cohen joined the company in September 2000 after a short tenure as CFO of Budget Group Inc., the parent of car rental company Budget Rent-A-Car.
- Switching Tracks: Liquid Audio Inc., an online music software company, named Michael Bolcerek as CFO, replacing Gary Iwatani, who resigned in September 2000. Before joining Redwood City, Calif.-based Liquid Audio, Bolcerek previously served as COO and VP of finance for Mongomusic, an online music service provider that was acquired by Microsoft Corp. in November 2000.
- Uninstall This Program? Software maker Art Technology Group Inc. announced that its CFO Ann Brady will resign to spend more time with her family, as soon as the company hires a replacement. The news comes along with an announcement of wider first- quarter losses. The Cambridge, Mass.-based firm also said that salaries would be temporarily cut and offices will be consolidated. It blamed a slowdown in technology spending by U.S. corporations, according to a company statement.
- Turning Up the Power: Waukesha, Wis.-based electronics manufacturing services company APW Ltd. appointed Richard Carroll as CFO. Carroll succeeds Michael Duffey who has resigned for personal reasons. In his six-year tenure with APW, Carroll served as corporate controller and treasurer.
