Kathryn Mikells has been named to the top finance spot at Xerox Corp., effective May 2. She will join the firm from The ADT Corp., where she is CFO.

Cargill Inc. has appointed Marcel Smits to lead the finance function, effective April 15. He succeeds president and chief operating officer David MacLennan, who has been interim CFO since November. Smits had been employed at Sara Lee, where he was named CFO in 2009 and CEO in 2011.

Larry Hilsheimer has been named finance chief at The Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. A former CFO of Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co., he most recently served as president and chief operating officer of Nationwide Retirement Plans.

Sydney Carey is stepping down as head of finance at Tibco Software Inc., effective April 19. She will be replaced at the infrastructure software provider by chief operating officer Murray Rode, who will become interim CFO until a permanent successor to Carey is found.

CFO Sherry Smith will leave grocer Supervalu Inc. at the end of May. She has been at the company for 26 years and was named finance chief in 2010.

High-performance solid-state drives provider OCZ Technology Group has named Rafael Torres as its next finance chief. He takes over from Arthur Knapp, who is retiring. Formerly, Torres was CFO and vice president of finance at Capella Photonics.

Akhil Johri has been appointed to lead the finance function at filtration and purification firm Pall Corp., effective May 1. He is now CFO and vice president of finance at the propulsion & aerospace systems group at United Technologies Corp.

Business-process services firm Synnex Corp. has named Marshall Witt to head finance. He succeeds Thomas Alsborg, who announced last year that he would retire. Witt joins Synnex from FedEx Freight, where he was controller and senior vice president of finance.

Farmer Bros. Co., a coffee and tea manufacturer and distributor, has named Mark Nelson CFO and treasurer, effective April 15. Previously, he was chief accounting officer and corporate controller at Newport Corp.

Michael Grasher has been appointed to the top finance spot at Amerisafe Inc., a provider of hazardous workers’ compensation insurance. He takes over from G. Janelle Frost, who has been promoted to chief operating officer, effective May 15. The company expects Grasher, who is now senior vice president, capital markets and investor relations, at Fortegra Financial Corp., to start at the company next month.
