J.C. Penney Co. has appointed Ken Hannah to lead the finance function. Most recently, he was president of solar energy at MEMC Electronic Materials; before that, he was CFO of that company.

CFO Hermann Waldemer has decided to take early retirement from Philip Morris International Inc., effective July 31. He will be replaced by Jacek Olczak, now president of the European Union region.

Christopher Holland has been appointed to the top finance spot at medical-device manufacturer C.R. Bard Inc., effective May 21. Previously, he was treasurer and senior vice president, finance, at Aramark Corp.

OSI Restaurant Partners LLC has named David Deno CFO. He replaces Dirk Montgomery, who will become chief value chain officer. Most recently, Deno was CFO of the international division of Best Buy Co.

Vance Johnston has been promoted to head finance at Furniture Brands International Inc. He takes over from Steven Rolls, who has resigned. Previously, Johnston was senior vice president, growth and transformation.

PDL BioPharma Inc. has named Bruce Tomlinson to lead the finance function, effective June 11. Formerly, he was chief accounting officer, corporate controller, and vice president of finance at InterMune Inc.

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has appointed John Theuer as its next finance chief. He joins the company from Panda Restaurant Group, where he was CFO.

Joseph Passarello has been named CFO and senior vice president of finance at Serena Software Inc. He is a former CFO of Aptina Imaging, AMI Semiconductor, and Therma-Wave Inc.

Dan Spiegelman will become finance chief at BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. when he succeeds Jeffrey Cooper at the end of the month. Most recently a consultant, Spiegelman formerly was CFO of CV Therapeutics.

Sports-airplane manufacturer Icon Aircraft has named Chris King to head finance. Previously, he was CFO of MRV Communications Inc.
