Sharon McCollam has retired as CFO and COO of Williams-Sonoma Inc. Corporate controller and treasurer Julie Whalen has been named acting CFO. 

Spirit Airlines Inc. has named Edward Christie III to lead the finance function, effective next month. He will take over from David Lancelot, who is leaving the company. Christie is now CFO of Pinnacle Airlines.

Susanne Stover has been appointed to head finance at The New York State Racing Assn. She succeeds Ellen McClain, who was promoted to chief operating officer in October. Most recently, Stover headed finance at Rosa Mexicano Restaurants; before that, she was controller at California Pizza Kitchen Inc.

Atkore International Inc. has named James Mallak as its new finance chief. He takes over from Karl Schmidt, who is leaving the company. Mallak is a former managing director of Alvarez & Marsal.

Video-game publisher Activision Blizzard Inc. has appointed Dennis Durkin to the top finance spot. He replaces Thomas Tippl, who has been interim CFO since he was promoted to chief operating officer in 2010. Previously, Durkin was chief operating officer and CFO of the interactive entertainment business at Microsoft.

Steven Jones has been named to head finance at Allied Nevada Gold Corp. Formerly, he was president and CFO of EPM Mining Ventures Inc.

Gigamon has appointed Duston Williams to lead the finance function. Most recently, he was CFO of SandForce Inc.
