Sempra Energy has promoted finance chief Mark Snell to become president of the company, effective October 1. He will replace Neal Schmale, who is retiring on November 1. Joseph Householder, controller and chief accounting officer, will take over from Snell as CFO.
Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. has named Kevin Walker to the top finance spot. Previously, he headed finance for the retirement and protection division of Genworth Financial.
Daniel Karnuta has been appointed to lead the finance function at Conifer Health Solutions Inc. He comes to the company from Dell Inc., where he was executive director of finance.
Retailer Body Central Corp. has named Tom Stoltz CFO and treasurer, effective September 26. He succeeds Richard Walters, who has left the company. Stoltz joins Body Central from Fanatics LLC, where he has headed finance since 2008.

Energy company Summit Midstream Partners LLC has appointed Matthew Harrison to the top finance spot. Previously, he was CFO of Hiland Partners LP; before that, he was a director in the energy & power merger & acquisitions group at Wachovia Capital Markets.
Ronald Scarboro, who joined medical-transcription-services provider MedQuist Holdings Inc. last month as senior financial executive, has been promoted to CFO. He takes over from Tony James, who has resigned but will remain at the company until October 1 to aid in the transition. Formerly, Scarboro was CFO, strategic diversification, at Aetna Inc.
Software company Qvidian has appointed Jim Eliason to lead the finance function. Previously, he was CFO of Desktone.
Neal Fuller has been appointed CFO and assistant secretary of insurance holding company SeaBright Holdings Inc. He is a former CFO of ICW Group.
Abraxas Petroleum Corp. has promoted Barbara Stuckey to the top finance spot. In that role, she succeeds Chris Williford, who has resigned. Previously, Stuckey was vice president-corporate finance.
