• Northwest Airlines named David M. Davis senior vice president of finance and controller, reporting to executive vice president and chief financial officer Neal Cohen. Davis returns to the Eagan, Minnesota-based airline after CFO stints at US Airways and Kraton Polymers LLC. He replaces Jeff Putnam, who has resigned.
Northwest also appointed Dan McDonald as vice president of finance and fleet planning and Barry Hofer as vice president of financial planning and analysis. Both men will report to Davis. The announcements were made late last week, prior to Northwest’s bankruptcy filing on Wednesday.
• Elias F. Habayeb will join insurer American International Group Inc. as chief financial officer of the Financial Services Group, reporting to AIG executive vice president and CFO Steven J. Bensinger and to AIG senior vice president William N. Dooley. Habayeb was previously a partner in the Capital Markets Group of Deloitte & Touche. He succeeds Ronald A. Latz, who has been named a vice president at AIG Financial Products Corp.
• Greenwich, Connecticut-based United Rentals Inc. appointed Martin E. Welch interim chief financial officer until the company hires a permanent replacement for John N. Milne, who was terminated last month. Most recently, Welch was director and business advisor to the private equity firm York Management Services. He held CFO posts at Kmart Corp. from 1995 to 2001 and at Federal-Mogul Corp. from 1991 to 1995.
• Test-preparation specialist The Princeton Review appointed Andrew J. Bonanni chief financial officer. He succeeds Steve Melvin, who had served as finance chief since 1999 and who will stay on as executive vice president of finance. Since 2002, Bonanni was senior vice president and CFO of Bowne Business Solutions, an outsourcing services organization; earlier, he was managing vice president of worldwide business planning and corporate reporting for Gartner Inc.
• David Chemidlin was named corporate controller of Advance Magazine Group, parent of publishers including Conde Nast, and will report to chief financial officer John Bellando. He will also continue in his position as senior vice president and general manager of the Advance’s shared services center in Wilmington, Delaware. Chemidlin, who joined Conde Nast in 1995 as treasurer, previously worked at Sony Music Entertainment as vice president of finance of the Special Products Group and as vice president and controller of Sony Music Group’s U.S. operations.
• Software maker Intuit Inc. tapped Kiran Patel as senior vice president and chief financial officer. Patel joins the Mountain View, California-based company from Solectron Corp., a provider of electronics manufacturing and integrated supply chain services, where he served as executive vice president and CFO since 2001. Earlier he worked at engine manufacturer Cummins Inc. in a number of positions, including executive vice president and CFO. Patel succeeds Brad Henske, who became general manager of Intuit’s consumer tax business in May.
• Jones Apparel Group Inc. announced two new finance positions. Efthimios Sotos was named executive vice president and treasurer, strategic and financial planning; Deborah Gargiulo was named chief financial officer of the Better Apparel Divisions, reporting to Sotos.
• Michael Dinkins is joining Richmond, Virginia-based insurance group Hilb Rogal & Hobbs Co. as executive vice president and chief financial officer. He succeeds Carolyn Jones, who is retiring. Previously Dinkins served as vice president of global control and reengineering at Guidant Corp. Earlier in his career, he held the top finance job at NCR’s Worldwide Customer Services Operation; at Access Worldwide Communications Inc., where he later became chairman and chief executive officer; and at Cadmus Communications Group.
• Auto-parts maker Remy International Inc. named Jeffrey Potrzebowski senior vice president and chief financial officer. He succeeds Raj Shah, who was recently named chief operating officer. Potrzebowski joins the Anderson, Indiana-based company from Great Lakes Chemical Corp. which he joined in 1993 and where he served most recently as senior vice president and CFO.
• Waltham, Massachusetts-based public-relations agency Schwartz Communications Inc. named Ari Milstein chief financial officer. Most recently, Milstein was CFO for software maker Adlex Inc.
