American Airlines CFO Switches to AT&T

>> Reportedly, Thomas Horton leaving CFO post at American Airlines parent AMR to join AT&T as finance chief… Horton, 41, succeeds Charles Noski, who last month announced desire to leave telecom giant after completion of merger with Comcast Corp…. That deal slated to close later this year… Noski had been named AT&T vice chairman in February… Horton will also join AT&T’s office of the chairman…

Horton began 17-year stint at American as financial analyst… Held various senior finance jobs before becoming SVP of finance and CFO in January 2000…

Who replaces Horton at American? Jeffrey Campbell, who’s been serving as airline’s VP of Europe since January 2000… Before that, Campbell was VP of corporate development and treasurer—that’s the finance connection…

>> Personal-care products supplier Coty hired Michael Fishoff as CFO… Fishoff joins maker of Calgon and other bath and beauty stuff after 25 years with Bristol-Myers Squibb, which has been going through big management shakeup of late… As reported in this column in April, Bristol-Myers’s CFO—and 20-year company veteran—Frederick Schiff ended up on street in management makeover…

As for Fishoff: most recently served as VP of finance at Clairol (now a Procter & Gamble subsidiary)… Started out in 1974 working in audit department at Haskins & Sells (now part of Deloitte & Touche)…. During his 14-year tenure, Clairol’s beauty care division grew from $600 million to $1.8 billion… Fishoff looking at similar numbers at privately held Coty, with worldwide annual net sales of $1.65 billion…

>> Atlanta-based humanitarian organization Care appointed Ted Jastrzebski as SVP of finance and administration… In addition to managing financial and administrative operations at the global poverty-fighting organization, Jastrzebski will also be in charge of IT…

Apparently, Jastrzebski keen on not-for-profit work… Also spent three years as VP and CFO of international humanitarian-health group Project HOPE… Prior to that, served 14 years with consumer-products maker Procter & Gamble… At P&G, his last position was director and finance manager for operations in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka… Working in those countries will get you thinking about helping humanity, that’s for sure… Care also said it named Richard Prather as VP and chief information officer…

>> Legalese no problem for lifelong lawyer Andrew Holcomb, who was promoted to SVP and CFO posts at computer disc-drive component maker Read-Rite… Holcomb was previously company’s general counsel and SVP of new business development… He became acting CFO in March, when John Kurtzweil resigned…

Holcomb joined Read-Rite as associate general counsel in February 1998 from Elonex Technologies, the U.S. subsidiary of UK personal-computer company Elonex, where he was VP and general counsel… Also spent five years with Digital Equipment as senior litigation counsel…
