Listen to This: Internet-based voice service provider iBasis Inc. said that CFO Michael Hughes resigned to assume an executive position at a new company. He was replaced at the Burlington, Mass.-based firm by VP of corporate development D.J. Long on an interim basis.
Flying High: UAL Corp., the parent of United Airlines, named Donald Strench CFO and SVP of finance and administration at BizJet, its recently formed business aviation unit. Strench was previously president at Transaction Partners, an aviation management consulting firm. UAL launched BizJet to provide jet services to high-end corporate travelers.
Serving Up Finance: Shoney’s, Inc., a Nashville, Tenn.- based restaurant chain, appointed V. Michael Payne, who first joined the company in 1973, to the CF0 post. Most recently, he was SVP and controller. Payne replaces James M. Beltrome, who had been with the company since May 2000.
Chair Power: Electronics Manufacturing Group Inc. announced that Sean Bovingdon resigned as CFO and VP of finance of the Calagary-based electronics manufacturer. Bovingdon has accepted a senior financial position in a public oil sands development company. Alastair Robertson will become interim CFO upon Bovingdon’s departure. Robertson is presently chairman of the company.
Getting Technical: Ubics Inc., a Canonsburg, Penn.-based IT services firm, announced the appointment of Neil Ebner to CFO. He was formerly corporate controller at Crown Castle USA, a Houston-based wireless communications company. Edner succeeds acting CFO Babu Srinivas, after an “intense search.”
Crystal Clear: Lois Eckmann was named VP finance and CFO of Nova Crystals Inc., a San Jose, Calif.-based maker of optical networking components. Before joining the company she held various senior financial positions at Aspect Communications, a provider of CRM and call center solutions, including treasurer and head of investor relations. Most recently, she served as CFO of a small software and services company.
