- Quick Find: Web search company, AltaVista, named Bret England as its CFO, one week after its former CFO Ken Barber, said he would retire by year-end. The Palo Alto, Calif.-based company also announced that it will reorganize into two units: consumer search and business solutions services.
- Check In: Clearwater, Fla.-based, Checkers Drive-In Restaurants Inc., an owner and operator of double drive-thru quick- service hamburger restaurants, named Wendy Beck as its CFO. Beck replaces Ted Abajian, who left as part of a management team change in September. Beck has served as VP of finance and treasurer of Checkers since 1995. In 1999, Beck earned $113,587 in annual salary and $144 in all other compensation. Checkers eliminated five corporate officer positions during the fourth quarter of 2000 as part of a plan to reduce its executive team.
- Message Alert: Commtouch, a provider of integrated E-mail and messaging solutions based in Mountain View, Calif., announced that James E. Collins, 41, has been promoted from CFO to COO. Sunil Bhardwaj, 45, who was most recently CFO of Menlo Park, Calif.-based Consolidated Freightways, will succeed Collins as finance chief.
- No Longer United: Hudson United Bancorp announced that its CFO, Nick Hahn, left after only three months in the job. The Mahwah, N.J.-based bank declined to comment on why Hahn had resigned or if the bank planned to name a replacement CFO. Hahn joined Hudson in September from CoBank in Denver, where he was SVP and comptroller.
- Burning Up: The White Barn Candle Co., a subsidiary of Intimate Brands, Inc., a retailer of women’s specialty products in Columbus, Ohio, named Dave Soulliere as its VP and CFO. Soulliere joins White Barn Candle from Plano, Tex.-based Frito-Lay where he served most recently as a financial manager.
- The BCE/BCI Shuffle: Toronto, Canada-based telecom groups, BCE Inc. and Bell Canada International (BCI) announced a shuffle in their executive teams. BCE appointed Siim Vanaselja to the CFO role, effective January 15. Vanaselja, 44, joins BCE from BCI. BCI named Howard Hendrick as its CFO, also effective Jan. 15, replacing Vanaselja. Hendrick was formerly VP of finance for Bell ActiMedia Inc. and CFO of Sympatico-Lycos Inc., BCE’s Internet service provider.
