The state of the global economy, international accounting standards, and political change will all be covered in keynote addresses at the 5th Annual CFO Rising West Conference, the largest fall event put on by CFO magazine. The conference, which addresses how financial executives can thrive in a changing business landscape, will be held October 24 to 27, 2010 at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort.
“This is a critical time for CFOs as they look for ways to grow profits in a slowing economic environment,” says Lori Calabro, CFO Conferences’ Editorial Director. “Our keynote speakers will be addressing this issue head-on at CFO Rising West and we’ll be offering many other presentations and interactive workshops throughout the conference.”
Joe Scarborough, known as “Morning Joe” on MSNBC–where he provides in-depth analysis of the day’s biggest stories–will give a special luncheon address on Tuesday, October 26, just one week before the mid-term elections. Scarborough, who is also a former Florida Congressman, will offer an insider’s perspective on what the outcomes will mean for the business landscape overall–and for finance in particular.
Raghuram Rajan, the former chief economist for the International Monetary Fund and current University of Chicago professor will kick things off on Monday, October 25. His latest book, Fault Lines: How Hidden Fractures Still Threaten the World Economy, was recently reviewed as “serious and thoughtful” by The New York Times. At CFO Rising West, Professor Rajan will outline some surprising causes of the implosion and offer a blueprint for preventing future financial disasters.
Tom Jones has seen finance evolve firsthand both as the CFO of Citibank and more recently as vice chairman of the International Accounting Standards Board. As the deadline for convergence inches closer, Jones will put the gravity of the changes into perspective for finance executives on Tuesday, October 26.
Michael C. Mankins, the head of Bain’s North America Organizational Practice, will be the keynote speaker on the final day of the conference, a day typically devoted to leadership skills. In his new book, Decide & Deliver: 5 Steps to Breakthrough Performance in Your Organization, Mankins outlines a process for improving corporate decision effectiveness, and he will share those insights on Wednesday, October 27.
Additional confirmed speakers include the CFOs of ExpressJet, Gamestop, Gymboree, Harrahýs Entertainment, HSBC-North America, IDT, LinkedIn, PG&E, USAA, and many more.
