CFO magazine announced today that The 5th Annual CFO Rising West Conference will be held from October 24 to 27, 2010 at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort. The four-day event will bring together CFOs and other senior financial executives to share experiences and learn new strategies to deal with the rapidly changing world of corporate finance.
“This year’s conference is particularly important,” said Lori Calabro, CFO Conference’s editorial director. “The continuing market gyrations, pending accounting rule changes, and mid-term elections are just a few of the reasons CFOs’ jobs are so complicated. We’ll be addressing these issues head-on in our keynote addresses at CFO Rising West and offering many other presentations and interactive workshops that pertain to these challenges throughout the conference.”
Kicking off the general sessions on Monday, October 25, will be Keynote Speaker Raghuram Rajan, the former chief economist for the International Monetary Fund and current University of Chicago professor. His new book, Fault Lines: How Hidden Fractures Still Threaten the World Economy, was recently reviewed by The New York Times as “serious and thoughtful.” At CFO Rising West, Professor Rajan will share his insights on some surprising causes of the economic implosion and offer a blueprint for preventing future financial disasters.
The keynote speaker on Tuesday, October 26, will be Tom Jones, the former CFO of Citibank, who more recently spent eight years as Vice Chairman of the International Accounting Standards Board. Mr. Jones, who is currently the director of the Center for the Study of International Accounting Standards at Pace University, will address the gravity of the upcoming accounting changes. In addition, more than 30 other speakers have been confirmed so far, including Steve Sordello, CFO of LinkedIn; Jonathan S. Halkyard, SVP & CFO of Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc.; Edgar Ancona, Senior EVP & CFO of HSBC-North America; and Kent M. Harvey, SVP & CFO of PG&E Corp.
