The AES Corp. has named Thomas O’Flynn to lead the finance function, effective September 4. He succeeds interim CFO Mary Wood, who will return to her post as controller. Most recently a senior adviser to the private-equity group at Blackstone, O’Flynn is a former CFO of Public Service Enterprise Group.
Investment-banking and asset-management company William Blair & Co. has appointed Jon Zindel to head finance. Previously, he was CFO of American Century Investments.
Blake Jorgensen has been named finance chief at digital interactive-entertainment provider Electronic Arts Inc. He is a former CFO of Levis Strauss & Co. and of Yahoo.
Williams-Sonoma Inc. has promoted Julie Whalen to the top finance spot. Whalen, who has been acting CFO since March, started at the firm in 2001 and was named corporate controller in 2003 and treasurer in 2011.
Private postsecondary-education provider Education Management Corp. has promoted president and CFO Edward West to CEO. He replaces Todd Nelson, who has been promoted to chairman of the board of directors.
Tetra Technologies Inc. has selected Elijio Serrano as its next finance chief. He takes over from Joseph Abell III, who has resigned. Serrano joins the oil-and-gas-services firm from UniversalPegasus International, where he also was CFO.
Brian Regan will be the new head of finance at Shutterfly Inc., effective August 20. Most recently, he was CFO of Wize Commerce / Nextag; before that, he was CFO of Ticketmaster Entertainment.
Hispanic advertising agency Bromley has promoted Edith Ramirez to the top finance spot. Ramirez, who joined the agency in 1995, had been client accounting manager.
CVR Energy Inc. has appointed Susan Ball CFO and treasurer of that company and of CVR Partners LP, of which CVR Energy is a majority owner. She succeeds Frank Pici, who is leaving the company. Previously, Ball was chief accounting officer and assistant treasurer of CVR Energy and CVR GP, general partner of CVR Partners.
