• American Media has named Jack Craven executive vice president and chief financial officer. Craven succeeds Carlos Abaunza, who will serve as a consultant to the publisher of such magazines as Star, Shape, Men’s Fitness, and Natural Health. In addition to forming his own CPA practice, Craven served as CFO of Time Inc.’s retail marketing and sales organization, Jobson Publishing, and Lear’s and McCall’s publishing companies.
• Discovery Communications has appointed Roger Millay senior executive vice president and chief financial officer. Millay previously served as senior vice president and CFO of Airgas. Prior to joining Airgas, he was senior vice president and CFO at Transport International Pool, a division of General Electric Capital. He also served in CFO roles at GE Capital Mexico and Colony Advisors. Discovery’s TV networks include Discovery Channel, TLC and Animal Planet.
• Video-sharing Web site YouTube has hired Gideon Yu, former treasurer and senior vice president of Yahoo, as its first chief financial officer, according to The Wall Street Journal.
• A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts announced today that Marc Katz will join the company as chief financial officer, effective September 13. Katz most recently served as chief information officer for Foot Locker, where he also once worked as a controller. He succeeds Leslie Gordon, who retired as CFO at the end of July.
• Entegris will name Gregory Graves senior vice president, chief financial officer, and treasurer, in early 2007. Graves will succeed John Villas who plans to retire from the materials transportation service company. Graves is currently senior vice president of strategic planning and business development.
• Voyager One has hired Jefferson Stanley as its chief financial officer. The interim CFO, Sebastien DuFort, will continue on as president of the camera technology company. A licensed New York attorney, Stanley founded HedgeMark Advisors and was the marketer for Black River Asset Management. He was also an investment banker with the Royal Bank of Canada and Dain Rauscher Wessels.
• Financial Media Group has appointed Mark Noffke chief financial officer. He succeeds Javan Khazali, who now serves as the advertising and media company’s chief operating officer. Previously, Noffke served as CFO of National Storm Management, U.S. Forest Industries, and Brands Shopping Networks. He was also an investment banker with Striker Pacific.
• Sontra Medical has tapped Harry Mitchell to be the company’s chief financial officer, treasurer and vice president of finance. Mitchell has been Sontra’s interim CFO since June 12. Previously, he was president and CEO of MedTech Advances, senior vice president and CFO of Boston Medical Technologies, and senior vice president, CFO, and treasurer of Focus Enhancements.
• Osteologix has appointed Matthew Loar chief financial officer. Previously, Loar was CFO of Genelabs Technologies. Loar also worked at CBR Cement as the corporate accounting manager and at Coopers & Lybrand as audit manager. Osteologix develops products for the treatments related to bone disease and women’s health.
• Republic Engineered Products has hired Joseph A. Kaczka as chief financial office. Kaczka served as vice president of finance for the special-bar-quality steel supplier, as well as treasurer and controller for USS/KOBE.
• Aspen Technology has appointed Bradley Miller senior vice president and chief financial officer, effective September 19. He served as CFO at Viisage Technology, and vice president of finance and corporate controller of Sonus Networks. Miller has held executive financial management roles at Sapient, Juniornet, and Wang Global.
• Cree Inc. announced that John Kurtzweil will join the semiconductor manufacturer as executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective September 29. Kurtzweil most recently served as senior vice president and CFO of Cirrus Logic. He was also the CFO of ON Semiconductor and Read-Rite.
• Kathleen Dvorak, senior vice president and chief financial officer of United Stationers, has decided to leave the wholesale distributor some time in 2007 to “seek new challenges,” according to a company press release. She has been the company’s CFO for the past five years.
• COPAN Systems has appointed Mark Pougnet chief financial officer. Pougnet most recently worked at Network Acceleration Software. He also served as global vice president of operations at Avaya Communication. COPAN provides data storage solutions.
• SiriCOMM has named Matthew McKenzie chief financial officer and treasurer. McKenzie joined the application service provider in February 2005 and served as controller and director of customer until last September when he left the company. Prior to rejoining SiriCOMM, he was the director of financial services for The Empire District Electric Company. He also served as president and CFO of Fast Freedom, a subsidiary of Empire.
