- She is Ready To Rumble:
The National Football League just signed up a brand new player. Barbara Kaczynski, who has spent 20 years in corporate finance, is the NFL’s new CFO. Kaczynski, the daughter of a New York police detective, spent 10 years at Time Inc. She replaces Tom Spock, who is now the New York City- based league’s EVP of news media and enterprise. Kaczynski is a graduate of Manhattan College and has an MBA from New York University. She began her career at the accounting firm of Price Waterhouse.
- Compaq’s Compact Solutions: Compaq Computer Corp. , a Houston-based provider of technology and solutions, named Jeff Clarke SVP and CFO. Clarke, 39, was Compaq’s VP of finance and strategy for Compaq Sales and Services. In a related announcement, the company has combined its consumer and commercial product groups to form the Access Business Group. Compaq SVP Mike Larson, who currently heads the Consumer Products Group, will lead this newly merged Access Business Group. In 2000, Larson earned $467,154 in salary and 1,590,620 in bonus and other compensation. Compaq recently issued a warning that first-quarter earnings would fall far short of analyst expectations. The shortfall was attributed primarily to an incipient PC price war amid a softening economy. The company also has plans to cut as many as 5,000 jobs, or seven percent of its workforce. Compaq currently employs about 67,000 people worldwide.
- He’s Cleaning House: Houston-based Waste Management Inc., a U.S. trash hauler, said that CFO William Trubeck was given the additional title of EVP. Trubeck was formerly CFO and EVP.
- Signing Off:
Metricom Inc., a designer of wireless telecommunications systems, announced the resignation of its CFO James Wall. Wall will be replaced by David Pangburn, the company’s corporate controller. The San Jose, Calif.-based company also announced the reduction of its workforce by 179, or about 22 percent of its 800 employees nationwide, as part of ongoing efforts to reduce costs.
