A former accountant for a heart-disease research foundation was sentenced to two to six years in prison for embezzling more than $237,000 to pay for such things as the services of a dominatrix, according to press reports.
Abraham Alexander, of East Meadow, N.Y. had earlier pleaded guilty to embezzlement of funds from the Cardiovascular Research Foundation partly to pay for sessions with Lady Sage, an Ohio dominatrix, as well as for other personal expenses, Reuters reported.
The judge was not pleased. “You stole an awful lot of money from a very good organization. You stole the money for the purpose of obtaining pleasure for yourself,” Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Renee White said, according to the New York Post.
Alexander spent nearly $250,000 to pay an online company run by Lady Sage, according to the paper. He also allegedly paid for airline tickets and car rentals and charged purchases at stores such a Leather Creations, Victoria’s Secret, and Wicked Naughty Accessories, according to published reports.
The judge agreed to cut Alexander’s sentence if he repays at least 50 percent of the money he stole, a number of news outlets reported.
Alexander plans to hand over to his wife, who is divorcing him, a half-interest in the house he shares with her, United Press International reported. His wife was so angry she refused to pay for Alexander’s $10,000 bail, according to the Post.
For his part, the accountant was appropriately contrite. “He’s sorry. It’s one of those things. I guess it was a midlife crisis. He never did anything like that before,” Alexander’s lawyer told the newspaper.
