- Given the challenges for hedge funds in 2008, and the trend of institutional investors to decrease allocations to alternatives, the hedge fund industry is at somewhat of a crossroads. However, as the credit markets soften, there are indications that risk is declining and opportunities exist. When investing in hedge funds moving forward, institutional investors should deploy a holistic approach that takes into consideration a number of current realities. The hedge fund industry has changed drastically over the past year, and institutional investors should consider the following developments when building or revising existing hedge fund strategies.
