- This white paper explores Title XIII of ARRA, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, which seeks to streamline healthcare and reduce costs through the use of health information technology. Under the HITECH Act, the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is directed to conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance within the first 12 months after enactment of the new rules. There is an increased, tiered penalty structure, with fines ranging from $25,000 to $1.5M, and penalties are mandatory for cases of ýwillful neglect. Its critical for Chief Financial Officers, Chief Technology Officers, Chief Executive Officers, and other top level executives to understand these requirements and compliance regulations to securely manage and protect both customers and their business.
