- By almost any measure, 2008 has earned a dubious place in investment history. Most of the commonly held asset classes posted significantly negative returns, and the losses, coupled with the extreme volatility that accompanied them, have left some investors wondering whether diversification and asset allocation failed. It is this question that weŭd like to respond to. At the risk of giving away the punch line, the benefits of asset allocation and diversification are alive and well.
