Abstract:
The days when statutory financial reporting could be viewed as a separate endeavour from regular in-house management reporting are long gone. The thrust of recent legislation seeks to place shareholders in a similar position to management so that investors are aware of trends and factors affecting current performance as well as future prospects. So an understanding of actual performance, driven by the close process, is now inextricably linked to wider operational and management reporting.

This article, the fourth in a five-part series, seeks to explain the increasing dependency of performance reporting on the Fast Close. The author, Gary Simon, Group Publisher of FSN and Managing Editor of FSN Newswire (www.fsn.co.uk), is a graduate of London University, a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow of the British Computer Society with more than 23 years experience of implementing management and financial reporting systems.
