- Abstract:
- As a result of the global settlement with regulators and changing industry dynamics, sell-side equity research faces many challenges. The link with investment banking commissions has been broken, and falling trading commissions coupled with the unbundling of research and execution services has further pressured the economic reality of research departments. Regulatory concerns, falling profitability, and expanded in-house research efforts on behalf of asset management firms among other things have some calling into question the relevance of the sell-side research business model going forward. With the help of IR Magazine, Thomson Financial Strategic Research set out to examine perceptions of market participants regarding the impact of these changes through a review of the academic research and a survey of market participants.
