Summary


According to a recent CFO survey of 148 senior finance executives, spend on cloud and mobile will dominate technology investments for finance departments this year. As such, CFOs and their teams are finding themselves at the forefront of their companies' efforts to select, implement, and use cloud and mobile technologies effectively.

Lower costs, improved data accessibility, and the advantages of outsourcing IT maintenance have already led many companies to adopt some form of cloud computing. Similarly, the adoption of mobile technology has afforded companies with increased employee productivity. While the benefits of adopting these technologies are apparent, the risks associated with their implementation and use may not be so obvious.

CFOs are -- and should be -- chiefly concerned with data security when it comes to cloud and mobile, followed closely by regulatory and compliance challenges.

About the Panelists

    Andrew Bartels, Vice President, Principal Analyst Serving CIOs, Forrester

    Andrew Bartels is a vice president and principal analyst with Forrester Research, Inc., serving CIOs and their business partners by predicting the long-term business impact of information technology. His research focus is on smart computing, analytics, and technology-driven business transformation, analyzing the shifting economics of the industry, including spending, budgeting, and the influence of macroeconomic trends. He also researches the growing customization of IT systems for industry-specific applications, especially in the utilities, energy, and professional services sectors. In addition, he is a thought leader in the sourcing and procurement technology markets.

    Andy has extensive experience in the technology market and in strategic planning, both as an analyst and a practitioner in the business world. He came to Forrester through its acquisition of Giga Information Group in 2003, where he had worked as a vice president and research leader since 1998. Prior to joining Giga, Andy held a variety of vice-president positions at American Express in the chairman's office, as well as in the areas of technology, strategic planning, and re-engineering. Before joining American Express, Andy worked as an economist, writer, and editor for various organizations, including Shearson Lehman Brothers; the US House of Representatives' Committee on Banking, Finance, and Urban Affairs; and the Council on Wage and Price Stability in the Executive Office of the President. He earned a B.A. in philosophy from Haverford College and a Ph.D. in history from Johns Hopkins University.


    Ed Moyle, Director, Emerging Business and Technology, ISACA

    Ed Moyle is Director of Emerging Business and Technology with ISACA. Prior to joining ISACA, Ed was Senior Security Strategist with Savvis and a founding partner of the analyst firm Security Curve.

    During his more than 15 years in information security, Ed has also served in positions that include Senior Manager with CTG's global security practice, Vice President and Information Security Officer for Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, and Senior Security Analyst with Trintech.

    Ed is co-author of the book Cryptographic Libraries for Developers and a frequent contributor to the information security industry as author, public speaker, and analyst.
