How successfully are companies investing in information technology? A recent CFO Research survey of 153 senior finance executives based in North America suggests that companies often struggle to make the right investments in IT, spending too much on IT services that support and maintain their current systems and not enough on discretionary IT projects aimed at improving or adding to those systems. In this report, we seek to determine the causes of this imbalance---and how finance teams can help address them.
