NEW YORK, August 3 -- CFO Publishing, which includes CFO magazine and CFO.com, won 12 national awards at the annual American Society of Business Publication Editors Annual Azbee Awards Dinner. CFO Publishing is an Economist Group business.
CFO Publishing led all the nation's business-to-business publishers in the competition with nine gold prizes, including ASBPE's first multi-platform general excellence award, honoring the integration of work between print and online operations. The winning multi-platform entry, the CFO and CFO.com special report on compensation, included the magazine's three-part series on compensation, additional report material that appeared only online, online video of the article's author discussing his work, and an archive of selected compensation articles. CFO.com was one of three websites to receive an honorable mention in the contest for Best B2B Website, a recognition that complements the Jesse H. Neal Award it received for Best Website earlier this year.
CFO magazine was also one of 10 finalists for Magazine of the Year.
"We are honored to be recognized by our peers for excellence in the full spectrum of Azbee Awards – from editorial to graphics to online," commented Julia Homer, CFO editor-in-chief. "We are very pleased that ASBPE's multi-platform award recognizes our success at integrating print and online editorial work to provide readers with the best news and analysis, regardless of medium," said CFO.com editorial director Tim Reason.
"The role of the CFO is increasingly important," commented Martin Giles, Managing Director and EVP of North America for The Economist Group. "These awards should be in their honor as well, as they are making many of the critical decisions in today’s companies."
CFO magazine also was honored in the 29th annual Azbees among larger publications for best overall use of photography and illustration.
Other gold Azbee Awards in the over-80,000 circulation category were for government coverage, news analysis, technical article, special supplement, annual buyers guide, and overall headline writing. Editorial staffers honored were editor-in-chief Julia Homer, Scott Leibs, Tim Reason, David Katz, Roy Harris, Edward Teach, Kate O'Sullivan, Don Durfee, Alix Stuart, and Joe McCafferty. In graphics, design director Robert Lesser was named on several awards, along with Janna Talbot and Carol Lieb, for opening spread/photo and opening spread/illustration. Bronze awards were for opening page or illustration. Among online entries, CFO.com received a bronze award for original web commentary.
The Azbee Awards are provided in 57 categories of magazine, online, newsletter, and multi-platform excellence. More than 2,600 entries were received from 500 publications representing approximately 185 companies. Azbee Awards are also given in ASBPE’s four U.S. regions. Earlier, CFO won seven editorial and graphics awards regionally, bringing the overall number of 2007 Azbee Awards to 18.
