The doubts that finance executives once had about offshoring are quickly disappearing as savings and process improvements become too good to pass up.

Your article reflected what we at AlixPartners are seeing as happening in today's outsourcing marketplace. Having worked on multiple engagements in the mid-market where outsourcing has been a key topic and having completed our own survey on the topic for the mid-market recently, we, too, have observed that a hands-off outsourcing mentality is very counterproductive. We found an unusually large percentage of customers in the mid-market indicating that their SG&A outsourcing was less than effective and this was directly co-related to the company not having prepared adequately on the inside. In fact, in our survey, interviews with CFOs and other senior executives, confirmed to us that for virtually all companies getting your own internal house in order prior to outsourcing is the best thing to do, as its benefits far outweigh and outlive what outsourcing in of itself can accomplish.
