Buybacks Stealing Cash from Dividend Raises

Companies are still returning cash to shareholders in record amounts, but buyback funding is beginning to take a toll on regular dividend increases, says Standard & Poor's.

Headline Correction

Thank you for your comment — you are right. Because of an editing error, the original headline of this article "Fewer Companies Paying Dividends" was incorrect. It has been changed to reflect the fact that it is the rate of dividend increases that has slowed.

More companies paying dividends

Mr. Taub is guilty of Washington speak. In fact, more companies are paying higher dividends--clearly outlined in his article. The rate of increase in dividend payments and dividend increases appears to be slowing based on the percentages mentioned in the article but the article's headline is patently false and I don't know why CFO would publish it given the article's content.
