Before identity thieves can target consumers, first they must impersonate a trusted business -- perhaps your business. Prudent companies are learning to minimize the costs to their corporate reputations.

I found this article interesting in light of recent events. A PayPal phishing site has been hosted on EarthLink/Mindspring for a couple of weeks now. I have called every day since I discovered it and EarthLink refuses to shut down the site. I provided EarthLink the IP address, the Mindspring user account number that put up the website, and even had one of their employees go to the web site and confirm that the phishing site still exists. At the time of writing this, the phishing site is still active, and EarthLink still refuses to shut it down. If companies Like EarthLink really want to help people, I think shutting down the fraudulent sites they host would be a good first step.
