- EchoStar Communications Corp. announced that chief financial officer Michael McDonnell resigned, effective August 13, 2004, to relocate and take a position nearer to his family on the East Coast. McDonnell joined the Englewood, Colorado-based satellite-TV company four years ago after 13 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers, according to published reports.
- Restaurant chain Cosi Inc. named Cynthia Jamison chief financial officer, effective immediately. She succeeds Mark Stickney, who decided not to relocate his family to the Chicago area, according to the company. Since June 1999, Jamison has been with Tatum CFO Partners, a provider of interim finance executives.
- New Century Financial Corp. promoted Patti M. Dodge to the position of chief financial officer. Dodge joined the subprime mortgage finance company in September 1996 as vice president and controller of its subsidiary New Century Mortgage Corp.; she became CFO of the subsidiary in February 2002.
Dodge succeeds Edward F. Gotschall, who has been vice chairman and CFO of New Century Financial since its inception in 1995. Gotschall will remain an officer of the company with the newly created title of vice chairman, finance, and also remain a member of the company’s board of directors.
- NovaStar Financial Inc., a residential mortgage lender and portfolio investor, appointed Greg Metz as senior vice president and chief financial officer. He is a certified public accountant and an attorney, according to the company. Prior to joining NovaStar, Metz was senior vice president and director of corporate tax with Union Planters Corp.
- Hospital chain HCA Inc. promoted controller R. Milton Johnson to the post of executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective immediately. Johnson, who has worked for HCA for 22 years, is taking a newly created position, according to the company.
