CFO Prediction Market

Ready... Set... Bet! Powered by

CFO has partnered with Crowdcast, a leader in prediction market systems, to bring you the CFO Prediction Market

Think of CFO's Prediction Market as a fantasy football league for finance executives — without the fantasy. Instead of predicting the performance of players on a fictitious team, you "bet" on real economic indicators like business inventory levels, the rate of inflation, and the direction of oil prices, as well as core concerns such as consumer spending, CFO turnover, and accounting rules convergence.

The CFO Prediction Market gathers the wisdom and insight from a crowd — in this case the "crowd" is you and your senior finance executive peers. But it is also a way for you to test your wits against the rest of the market — and have some fun in the process!

Simply visit the CFO Prediction Market now to get started. It's quick and easy to begin forecasting the future!

What is a Prediction Market?

The key to prediction markets is the "wisdom of the crowd." With each bet placed on a forecast, the odds grow that the consensus "prediction" will prove correct. Prediction markets have proven so accurate that they have been used by top corporations (Hewlett-Packard), the U.S. military, and the National Association of Business Economists. Now, finance executives have a market uniquely suited to them.

How it Works

It's quick and simple to get started. Once you click over to the CFO Prediction Market — if you are already registered on CFO.com — you will be asked to create a Prediction Market profile name. Then you can begin forecasting! There's even a video demonstration that takes you step-by-step through the process of forecasting.

If you are new to CFO.com (and not already registered), all you need to do is register for a free CFO.com account — then you will be directed to the CFO Prediction Market profile set-up page.

“ Larger groups of people are smarter than an elite few, no matter how brilliant -- better at solving problems, fostering innovation, coming to wise decisions, even predicting the future ”

- James Surowiecki, author of "The Wisdom of Crowds"

Compete for Monthly Prizes

If other people agree with your forecast, your bet will increase in value and you can sell it for a profit. If you choose to hold until the end and you're right, you'll win as well, regardless of what the crowd bet. The leaderboard shows you how your forecasts ("bets") measure up.

Each month, CFO will award prizes (for the participants with the highest balance) including free subscriptions to The Economist and Amazon.com gift cards. After the end of the three-month CFO Prediction Market beta period, the top forecaster will win a free pass to the CFO Rising East Conference, to be held in Orlando in March 2010 — valued at $1,995.00!
