Associate Director, Division of Finance and Operations (DFO)
The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) is the voice of dental education. The mission of ADEA is to lead individuals and institutions of the dental education community to address contemporary issues influencing education, research, and the delivery of oral health care for the health of the public. ADEA is seeking an experienced professional to oversee all financial and administrative functions of the Association and the ADEAGies Foundation including financial, accounting, information technology (IT), human resources (HR), administrative and physical infrastructure.
The Associate Director, DFO manages a budget of approximately $3.5 million and is responsible for continually evaluating, developing and implementing the financial policies of the organization and establishing and maintaining appropriate accounting principles, practices, internal controls, and financial reporting. The incumbent provides management oversight and coordinates the activities of the division staff and consultants while serving as the staff liaison to the external vendors for accounting, human resources and auditing. The Associate Director coordinates with the external vendor for HR to ensure that HR functions effectively and efficiently. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), this individual supervises the Director of Facilities & Operations and the Director, Information Technology and provides overall leadership to the DFO team ensuring the effective coordination of their activities.
The Associate Director must have the ability to work with collaboratively with all levels of staff, consultants and Association membership, plus the ability to analyze and synthesize information and other data relative to financial and organizational issues. The incumbent must also have the professional maturity capability to make correct assessments of priorities and to take the necessary action, in the absence of the COO with respect to the above responsibilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on effective verbal and written communication are required. Strong organizational and planning skills are essential. Additionally, the incumbent must be able to remain positive in difficult, demanding situations. The incumbent will have a B.S. or B.B.A. in business and at least 8 years of relevant experience, including supervisory experience.
