Job Description
Within our talented and dynamic Insurance & Actuarial Advisory Services group, the Senior Manager will be responsible for leading the group and multiple actuarial engagement teams as a senior firm executive. The successful candidate will direct the technical, business, and personnel aspects of actuarial consulting engagements and lead business development efforts. This position offers the right professional a tremendous opportunity for learning, leading, teaming, and career advancement.
Responsibilities
Understand complex actuarial concepts, discuss complex issues with the engagement team and client management, keep informed of professional standards and firm policies (e.g., Actuarial Standards of Practice), and effectively apply this knowledge to client situations.
Develop/maintain strong working relationships with key business decision makers. Provide guidance and expertise to team members and focus on complex/specialized actuarial issues. Collaborate to determine the engagement objectives and strategy. Manage expectations of service. Successfully manage to the budget.
Recognize key performance drivers, business trends, and emerging technical/industry developments. Communicate and apply EYs strategic objectives and organizational policies.
Develop people. Successfully delegate to all levels of staff. Conduct performance reviews, serve as a positive leader and mentor, and contribute to performance feedback/training. Foster teamwork and innovative thinking.
Commit to developing knowledge. Use technology to continually learn, share knowledge with team members, and enhance service delivery. Respect/protect client information. Maintain an educational program to continually develop skills.
Generate new business opportunities. Achieve growth by understanding EYs service lines and actively assessing/presenting opportunities for the firm to bring value to clients. Develop long-term relationships and networks. To qualify, candidates must have:
- a bachelors degree and approximately 8 years of related work experience; or a masters degree and approximately 7 years of related work experience
- an degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, and/or other related major
- experience working in an actuarial-oriented position, with 3 years of increased management responsibility
- Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society or Society of Actuaries, or particular business/industry experience to meet special needs
- proficiency in the use of spreadsheets and actuarial-related software
- strong writing, presentation, conceptual, analytical, and interpersonal skills
- excellent problem-solving and client-service skills
- a demonstrated ability to develop new business opportunities
