Who would have thought that finance could be so amusing?

Amid my bulletin board, filled accounting policy webcast notices, visitor security procedures and other similarly exciting topics, there is an entertaining and useful calendar that is finance-related. It's from RoseRyan, a California-based finance and accounting consulting company. Entitled, "Forgotten masterpieces of finance cinema," the calendar includes the lobby cards of "movies" such as "Night of the Living Auditors" and "Summer of 404".

For instance, "Summer of 404" is billed as "a Material Weakness Production" starring Paul Sarbanes and Michael Oxley, written by U.S. Congress, and directed by Mark Olsen. The Technicolor movie is R-rated, with the warning, "Under 37 requires accompanying board member of 3rd party. Excruciating tedium."

The calendar, which notes the very real and serious 10-Q and 10-K filing deadlines, also includes reminders such as "Mother's Day: Hallmark revenue soars," and "Father's Day: Hallmark revenue soars again."

Journalists receive a range of mementos from sources (paper clips and stress balls seem to be the usual goods), but this is one that will keep me chuckling throughout the year.
