What's This Guy Running For?

Is Christopher Cox running for president?

As Ron observes, the SEC chairmanship is "Not exactly a launch pad, it's more of a hot seat." And not since Joseph Kennedy helped his son into office has there been much of a path of any kind between the SEC and the Oval Office.

I've commented on Cox's political background before. But here we see it in action — this is exactly the sort of activity one sees from Congress. (In fact, Congress just held a similar event.) And while it's not without merit, it's hard to take it seriously when so many other substantive issues loom unresolved.

What do you expect, this is the same SEC that set up a committee to look into 404, and then ignored its recommendations.

I received this via e-mail from Eddy Elfenbein:

Great blog!

Remember that William O. Douglas was SEC Chairman in the late 1930s, and he nearly became FDR's running mate in 1944. Truman beat him out at the last minute.

Thanks Eddy. Nice recall!
