How the GAO Spells Sarbox Relief

The General Accountability Office has issued a report that warns the SEC not to go too far in rolling back Sarbox's Section 404 for small companies.

"If further relief is deemed appropriate," the report says, the SEC should "analyze the unique characteristics of smaller public companies and their investors to ensure that the objectives of investor protection are met," and the GAO advises the commission to make sure "any relief provided is targeted and limited."

In other words, more reason not to get your hopes up.
