Although Washington did die rich and Jefferson deeply in debt if you delve deeper you will see the reasons why. Perhaps Washington is more of a dreamer and Jefferson more of a manager than the summary results would indicate.

While both Virginians, Washington and Jefferson, are noted for having kept extremely detailed accounts, Washington died rich and Jefferson massively in debt. The difference seems to be that Jefferson was a dreamer and Washington was a manager. As a nation we are lucky we had both.
