- Spend Management and Visibility Have Come a Long Way
Connie,
I would love to see CFO Magazine visit this topic again, as so much has advanced in the world of spend management and spend analysis.
Gaining global, enterprise visibility into spending is much easier now than it was even a few years ago. With software programs or outsourced aggregation of data, companies can get a current, enterprise-wide view into spending detailed by category and operations. For relatively minimal costs, it is realistic today to have monthly spend visibility company-wide.
Its a shame that just a small percent of the leading Fortune 1000 companies have current, accurate visibility into their spending. How can you manage spending and cost control when you don't have real-time, accurate visibility into what your company is spending and with whom?
Thanks for covering this area, it continues to be an essential part of healthy corporate finances.Posted by Dan Cahill | May 20, 2009 11:08 AM ET
- Spend Management Software
Good article. I would recommend anyone considering spend analysis or spend management software take a close look at the research reports issued by firms like Gartner, Forrester Research and AMR Research. These tend to be very detailed and give a good overview of spend management options.
Emptoris, one of the leading spend software companies, has a number of good whitepapers, many very objective, as well as access to some free Gartner and Forrester research reports. Her is a link to a web page with some further info:
