Ford Motor Co. agreed to pay $10.5 million to settle two class- action lawsuits that claimed the automaker discriminated against older, white men. The lawsuits charged that Ford's employee evaluation system favored so-called diversity candidates--younger women and minorities. It also charged that a disproportionate number of older, white men were given low grades, costing them raises or promotions.
PricewaterhouseCoopers said on Tuesday its partners approved the appointment of Samuel DiPiazza Jr. as global chief executive, succeeding James Schiro, who in July announced plans to leave the accounting firm. See story.. DiPiazza, 51, was chairman and senior partner of the US firm. He will take over on Jan. 2.
Only 30 percent of companies have promoted the awareness of new limits for investing in 401(k) plans beginning in 2002, according to a survey of human resources execs at 504 companies by Cigna Retirement and Investment Services. As a result, 86 percent of these HR folks report no increase in questions from their employees.
